Your Child Will Love California's Summer Camps

When school ends each year many parents face the daunting task of trying to find something to fill their children's days. If you live on the west coast you may want to consider sending your children to one of the many California summer camps that are available. You can choose either sleep over camps or for less adventurous children perhaps a day camp is more appropriate.

Many of the schools in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas will have information on the California summer camps that may be appropriate for your child. Some parents mistakenly believe that a child needs to be nine or ten-years-old before they can comfortably go to camp. In the case of a long stay overnight camp this is probably the case but for the younger children in your family they can certainly attend a daytime camp.

If your child enjoys the beach consider sending them to one of the many camps that are located in beachfront areas. There is a large assortment of California summer camps that offer children the chance to participate in water activities including swimming and surfing. For an older child who wants to spend their time outdoors this is a dream come true.

It's not uncommon for parents to begin inquiring about these programs in the late winter and early spring. Spaces at some of the more popular California summer camps fill up quickly and this results in disappointment for many of the children unable to attend. Therefore it's suggested that you contact the camp you are interested in as soon as you decide you want to enroll your child so you can secure a spot.

The cost varies depending on the scope of the curriculum as well as the length of the program. Overnight California summer camps will be more expensive than a week at a day camp would be. It's important when weighing the cost to bear in mind how much child care for an entire summer would be. When viewed in that regard it's easy to see that it's well worth the cost.

Some children feel homesick when they are away overnight for the first time. Your child may actually insist that you come get them but it's quite common for those jitters to disappear and for the child to come to love the experience. Most of the California summer camps have experienced counselors who will work closely with your child to qualm any anxiety they are feeling. Summer camp is an important part of many people's childhood memories so consider making it part of your child's as well.
